A Very Important Meeting

A digital sticky note placed on top of a close up image of a tree, meant to look like an office memo reading "A Very Important Meeting: creative and collaborative experimentations in rest"

NEXT MEETING: Monday, November 6, 2023, 3:30-5 PM

WHERE: The FEELed Lab – 969 Raymer Rd

WHAT: Dani Pierson, our FEELed Lab administrator and MA student, will be leading a monthly event series titled “A Very Important Meeting” where we meet to take a very needed break. The title is meant to trouble the ways we are conditioned to feel shame when we rest. If someone asks you what you are doing, you can simply say “I am going to A Very Important Meeting.” This phrasing also asks that we prioritize rest the same ways we prioritize other “very important meetings.” At these meetings, Dani will lead creative and collaborative experimentations in rest.

For our first meeting, we will listen to Cree composer and conductor Andrew Balfour’s curation of Nagamo, performed by the vocal ensemble Musica Intima. Nagamo features Elizabethan choral music combined with Ojibway and Cree texts written by Andrew Balfour and Cory Campbell. We will meet upstairs at the FEELed Lab for introductions and spread out around the Lab to listen to Nagamo. After listening to the album, we will gather at the FEELed Kitchen Table to offer reflections on the music, resting, and being together.

Please bring: a device to stream the album and headphones for listening.

We will provide some supplies for colouring, doodling, and journalling while you listen to the music, but you are also more than welcome to bring any crafts/art supplies (beading, knitting, etc.) to keep your hands busy (if you like!) while you rest. Snacks, tea, and coffee will be on offer, as per usual!

All FEELed Lab events strive to be feminist, anticolonial, antiracist, queer and accessible spaces.
