The FEELed Lab welcomes (and thrives because of) the participation of student and community researchers and participants. Anyone is welcome to attend our public events, which are free of charge.
All FEELed Lab activities strive to be feminist, anticolonial, antiracist, queer-and-trans celebratory, and accessible spaces. We partner with researchers and artists who share our values.
Workspace at the FEELed Lab at Woodhaven Ecoculture Centre
The FEELed Lab now has workspace at the Woodhaven Ecoculture Centre for affiliated student, faculty and community researchers, as well as visiting artists and researchers. It includes:
- wifi
- 7 desks (available on a ‘hot desk’ basis) as well as 4 comfy armchairs
- a library of FEELed Lab-related books
- a printer (for small printing jobs!)
- small storage lockers (bring your own small padlock)
- a kitchen with complimentary tea, coffee and snacks. Lunches can be stored for the day in the fridge. We have a kettle and microwave, and dishes to use.
- Outdoor space to be inspired by!
- The schoolhouse/warming hut can be made available upon prior arrangement.
- While there is no air-con, the space is heated in the winter. The building design means that it stays relatively cool in summer and warm in winter.
If you would like to spend some time conducting your research, reading, writing here, you are welcome to join our community! The process for doing so is outlined here.
*PLEASE NOTE: Our lab space is currently located up one flight of stairs, and we highly regret that this means it is not easily accessible. We are constantly working to remediate this.
Affiliated FEELed Lab Researchers and Artists
FEELed Lab members generally fall into one of three categories:
(1) Research Affiliate (Project-related). Research affiliates include faculty and community members directly involved in the implementation of one of our on-going projects, as well as any students (research assistants) contributing to the project.
(2) Core Lab Member. Core Lab Members include the Director (Astrida), the Administrator (Julia) and graduate students currently under Astrida’s supervision. We hold regular meetings to discuss values and visions for the Lab’s ongoingness!
(3) Visiting Researcher/Artist. Visiting artists/researchers engage in a reciprocal relationship with the Lab: engaging with our researchers and resources as part of their own ongoing projects, and sharing their work with our community. Research stays range from a few days to a few months.

ASiR (Artist and Scientist in Residence Program)
In 2027 and 2028, FEELed Lab will host an Artist-and-Scientist in Residence program, in collaboration with the Faculty for Creative and Critical Studies. For more information and to apply, see here. [coming soon]
Opportunities for FEELed Lab Research Assistants

Opportunities for Incoming Graduate Students
If you would like to come to UBC Okanagan and work with the FEELed Lab as a graduate student (MA, MFA, MSc or PhD) under the supervision of Dr. Astrida Neimanis, please learn more about our Interdisciplinary Graduate Studies program here, and send any queries to the Lab Director at astrida.neimanis[at]ubc.ca.
Currently, Dr. Neimanis prioritizes environmentally-engaged projects that are interested in feminist, queer, crip, anticolonial, antiracist and otherwise intersectional and justice-oriented frameworks and methods (especially arts-sciences and other interdisciplinary proposals). Appropriate projects will be grounded in (a big-tent understanding of) the humanities as a primary orientation. Particular topics of interest to the Lab currently include:
- water, hydrofeminism
- Land relations, settler responsibilities and obligations
- working with and through language, art, poetry, imagination, speculative theory and other creative forms as a response to climate justice
- queer ecologies
- space as environment / space colonialism

Please note: Incoming graduate students are not guaranteed FEELed Lab project funding, but will be considered for funding packages (including teaching assistanceships) available to all UBCO graduate students in the IGS program. In some cases, this can be augmented by FEELed Lab research project funding.

Opportunities for Incoming Postdoctoral Fellows
While we do not have independent funds to support Postdoctoral Fellows, we can support suitable applications to other funding schemes such as the Killam, SSHRC, or UBCO Postdoctoral Fellow schemes (Canada & International). Please send any queries to the Lab Director at astrida.neimanis[at]ubc.ca, allowing ample time for an interview and collaborative work on a letter of intent/proposal, as needed. Most postdoctoral schemes have deadlines in the early autumn.
