The Shanenawa people - around 15 of them, some in traditional dress from the Amazon region - gather for a photo under a large tree

A Rare Gathering at the FEELed Lab

WHEN: Monday, September 8, 2025 | 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM

WHERE: Woodhaven EcoCulture Centre, 969 Raymer Rd. Kelowna, BC.

We are honoured to welcome Tuwe Shanenawá, Mani Mugnaini, and their daughter Nay Inu Mugnaini Shanenawá.

WHAT: Join us for a rare opportunity to experience an intimate gathering with members of the Shanenawa people of the Brazilian Amazon, the People of the Blue Bird. This event brings together intersectional studies, Indigenous knowledge, and ecofeminism in direct conversation with voices from the Amazon rainforest.

What to Expect:

  • Knowledge and Storytelling: Oral stories and teachings shared directly by Shanenawa delegates.
  • Music and Magic: Traditional songs that carry ancestral memory and healing.
  • Art and Fundraising: The delegates will bring handmade jewelry and crafts for sale, with all proceeds supporting the creation of a community NGO and cultural center in their home village, a project emerging after many years of struggle for rights and recognition. A QR code for direct donations will also be available to further support their vision.
  • Shared Food: Light refreshments will be served. Please RSVP to secure your space and to inform us of any dietary restrictions.

Why Attend

This gathering is more than an event. It is a powerful opportunity to deepen our community’s understanding of the lived experiences of Indigenous peoples in the Amazon. The Shanenawa embody a moving and grounded relationship with faith in nature and in the future. Their way of practicing environmental activism is not only about resistance to oil extraction and illegal mining, but also about healing, relationality, and vision.

We especially encourage participation from critical thinkers, artists, eco activists, and community builders who are already navigating these intersections. Your presence and reflections can help hold the space with care, ensuring this experience is not only received but also meaningfully integrated into our collective work.

Space is limited.

By attending, you are not only participating in cultural exchange but also supporting the Shanenawa community’s ongoing efforts to build their future.
