DATE: March 9, 2024
TIME: 9 AM – 1 PM
LOCATION: 969 Raymer Rd (FEELed Lab)
Community members, academics, and activists alike, many of us sense a disconnect between our daily work and the many injustices of the world which permeate our lives in different ways – from destructive pipelines being built through unceded Wet’suwet’en and Secwépemc Lands, to Israel’s violent settler occupation of Palestine, and beyond. Such disconnect can immobilize us in despair and hopelessness and isolate us from one another, weakening our ability to grapple with very real and very pressing social issues collectively. Still, there is reconnection, hope, and power to be found in spaces of collaboration, community work, and relationship-building.
Join us at 969 Raymer Road on March 9th for a 3-hour, arts-based workshop to hold space for reconnection through collective healing, dialogue, grief, and creation. At this workshop we will engage in group conversations, collaborate to create zines, postcards, and posters, and share a meal together. We will support transportation to and from the event. The goal of this workshop is to situate our lived experiences, personal research topics, and/or community work in the contexts of local and global injustices, strengthening these connections and moving forward together. With permission, we will disseminate the art we create to mobilize key messages and learnings with the broader community. This workshop is funded by the Centre for Climate Justice and UBCO Climate Action Month, hosted by the FEELed Lab, and iteratively informed by community partners including but not limited to Fridays For Future Kelowna and students pushing for a Free Palestine.
Art-making materials will be provided for making Zines, postcards, and posters. However, we encourage you to engage in this workshop in ways that align with your own styles of creative expression (digital art, collage, poetry, song writing, painting, etc). While it is not required, please feel free to bring any additional materials you would like to create a piece (a laptop for digital art, paints, etc.). With permission, we will digitize and reproduce our creations to share with community partners and specific events/locations (e.g. the Interdisciplinary Graduate Student Conference, the Vernon Art Gallery, etc. – open to suggestions).
This workshop has limited capacity. Registration is required for attendance. If you will be unable to attend the workshop, please email feeledlab@gmail.com as far in advance as possible so that we may allocate your spot to someone else.
All FEELed Lab events strive to be feminist, anticolonial, antiracist, queer and accessible spaces. Currently, participants must use a flight of stairs to access parts of the premises, such as the bathroom.
