WHEN: Friday 16 Jan, 2025, 4 – 6 PM
WHERE: 969 Raymer Rd, Kelowna, BC V1W 1K1
(If you can offer a ride, or if you need a ride, check out our carpool link!)
WHAT: Welcome the start of a new semester and January darkness with stories, snacks and community. We invite you to focus on who or what is also there in these darkest weeks in the Northern Hemisphere.
This event is about noticing who or what is keeping us company in the dark. Which people, foods, places, artists, animals or other entities help sustain and entertain us in the dark winter months of the northern hemisphere?
We invite you to spend some time noticing those who keep you company over the winter break and to share stories from those moments with us to re-connect at the start of the new semester. We will have a dark-art crafting activity where you can share what kept you company and get inspired about possible future darkness companions you might want to invite next year.
Jamie Stevens from our Plant People Gatherings will also lead a native seed-planting session!
If you need inspiration for you darkness companions and dark art, here are some ideas from last year’s “Welcoming the Dark” event:
Mysterious, cozy, comforting!
What to bring
- Yourself, your story or description of your darkness companions*
- warm cozy clothes for hanging out outside
- BYOM* (bring your own mug for hot drinks!)
- Dark art to swap (perhaps bring names of artists, books or movies that have kept you company to swap with others)
*If you can’t find a story or would like to keep your companions secret, you are still very welcome to join us!
Free-of-charge, all welcome! Snacks, stories and hot drinks provided.
