Welcoming the Dark

Dark night sky above trees with faint green northern lights in the background

WHEN: Friday 6 Dec, 2024, 4 -7 PM

WHERE: 969 Raymer Rd, Kelowna, BC V1W 1K1

(If you can offer a ride, or if you need a ride, check out our carpool link!)

WHAT: Celebrate the end of term, night sky, and the upcoming winter equinox with stories, snacks and community.

This event is all about sharing and stockpiling stories for the winter. Embracing the darkness, we invite everyone to come with a darkness-themed story (a couple of sentences, a poem, a song, a mini-performance; a favourite childhood fairy tale, a scene from a film, something you wrote – please interpret creatively!). Starting with a short workshop offered by Annie Furman, we will stockpile stories while gathering around the fire, to help ease us into familiarity with the coming dark.

If you need inspiration for your darkness story, here are some ideas:

Mysterious, cozy, comforting!

What to bring

  • Yourself, your story*
  • warm cozy clothes for hanging out by the campfire
  • BYOM* (bring your own mug for hot drinks!)
  • Dark books to swap (we will have a small pop-up book swap station)

*If you can’t find a story, you are still very welcome to join us! Our workshop, led by the amazing Annie Furman, may inspire you to craft one on the spot!

Free-of-charge, all welcome! Snacks, stories and hot drinks provided.

*The FEELed Lab recognizes that December 6 is also National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. We will take time during our gathering to mark this, while celebrating ways and places we can gather to continue insisting that other worlds are possible.*

All FEELed Lab events strive to be feminist, anticolonial, antiracist, queer and accessible spaces.
