Date: Friday, May 12, 2023
Time: 3:30-5:00 PM
Where: Woodhaven Ecocultural Centre
What: Join us for a collective resting experience led by Metis-settler MA student (and FEELed Lab administrator) Dani Pierson. Dani will guide us through the feminist, anti-colonial, and anti-capitalist potentialities of radical rest to embrace the slow waking of spring in the Okanagan.
We will begin with a brief introduction to the rest as resistance concept, then spend approximately 30-40 minutes daydreaming or resting together, and finally, we will use the remaining time to reflect on our experience and continue conversations on radical rest.
(Right before this workshop, we are hosting CRAFT-A-STROPHE 2, where we will be making FEELed Lab tote bags and reading rest-related poetry. Come by from 12:30-3 PM if you are interested.)
PLEASE BRING:
- appropriate apparel as we will be outside (please note that the lab is often a little colder than the rest of Kelowna.)
- A yoga mat, blanket, or chair to rest on (we will be outside on the lawn, so bring one you don’t mind getting a little grassy.)
- A mug for tea or coffee
Elsewhere participants: If you are not able to make it, consider taking a look at Dani’s Rest as Resistance guidebook, which introduces the concept and ends with a few rest practices. Find the guidebook on her website, here.
Fringe Natures is an occasional outdoor event series hosted by the FEELed Lab. These events invite deep curiosity about who, and where, we are, and what the heck we are doing here. All FEELed Lab events strive to be feminist, anticolonial, queer, and accessible spaces! As we move toward increasing the accessibility of all our events, please let us know if there’s anything we can do to accommodate your specific needs.
