LITTORAL LISTENING #2: We (we/us/ours)

When first we met we heard Alexis Pauline Gumbs’ (2021) words “and the you before and after that (meaning us.)” By “growing around and into each other” (Spahr, 1998), you and us become we. It is the idea and practice of we that draws together this second iteration of Littoral Listening. There is no such thing as “We,” Max Liboiron (2020) has written, in a call for specificity and humility. But is there room for we? Let us gather to listen/read together the anchoring texts listed below, thinking through and with the tension of commonality and difference, “sit[ting] in our own silence” (Simpson, 2021) while we build a/our fire “careful moment after careful moment” (ibid).
All are welcome to join. We will plan to be together for 1.5 hours, though you are welcome to come or go to meet your needs.
