Although many of us understand the year to be divided into four seasons, a more discerning approach to the times of the year attunes us to the squidgy, melty zone between winter and spring. As many bodies start to roust themselves from winter rest and others change up their pace to match the brighter mornings, the FEELed Lab invites you for a gentle walk to listen to the thaw. How do our bodies begin to move differently, both at subtle and more noticeable
scales, as things start to get juicy?
Directions and What to Bring:
Access to Munson Pond is east of Burtch Road, between Byrns and KLO roads. Burtch road is pedestrian/bike/other mobility device access only on this stretch – i.e. you can’t drive down Burtch from Byrns all the way to KLO.
By bus: the 4, 12, and 88 stop on KLO Road at St Anand. Walk east along KLO to Burtch Rd, then walk up Burtch to the pedestrian entrance at the end of the dead end. The terrain is gravel from
here on, so please let us know if you need some mobility assistance.
By bike: Bikes can be locked up on the no-car stretch of Burtch Rd, at the access to Munson Pond.
By car: Street parking is available on Burtch Rd turning off north from KLO Rd. Access Munson Pond via the pedestrian path at the top of this dead end.
Bring: Comfortable walking shoes; earbuds (or headphones) and a phone/mp3 player capable of streaming or downloading a 15-minute audio clip. If gentle walking is something your body prefers not to do, there will be some chairs available from which to enjoy a more sessile experience.
Please note, there is no public toilet at Munson Pond, although there is plenty of bushy cover all around.
If you are unable to join us, but would like to participate remotely as we attune our bodies to the sounds and sensations of thaw, get in touch with us at email@example.com. We will send you a version to engage with, where ever your thawing body may be.
Fringe Natures is an occasional outdoor event series hosted by the FEELed Lab. These events invite deep curiosity about who, and where, we are, and what the heck we are doing here. All FEELed Lab events strive to be feminist, anticolonial, queer, and accessible spaces!
