When: Monday 13 November – Friday 17 November
Where: Woodhaven EcoCulture Centre
WHAT: Time to read-and-write together, over UBCO’s midterm break
Midterm break is a time for us to rest (yay!), but it is also often a time to catch up on reading and writing. And isn’t it always better to do these things together-apart?
This midterm break the FEELed Lab will be open for do-it-together reading-writing retreat, two sessions a day (morning and afternoon) for five days. Each session can accommodate up to 8 readers/writers. Sign up for as many as you like, but please cancel at least 24 hrs in advance if you can’t make it, to allow others to join. This retreat is open to undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and community.
Sessions will involve silent working (although you can always go for a walk or sit outside if you want to chat). The Lab has 8 workstations, each comprising a desk and chair, as well as four armchairs for comfie reading. We will all break for a convivial and conversational group lunch from 12:30 – 1:30 everyday – we want to hear about what you are working on! Come early or stay late (or take a mid-session break) if you want to enjoy a walk in Woodhaven.
BRING: Snacks and lunch for yourself (if you are staying/arriving at lunchtime), and something to share is also welcome! (We love trying people’s weird favourite vegetables, homemade treats, family favourites, regional oddities, etc! See our post about food here).
We will provide tea, coffee, oat milk, sugar, and some snacks. Dishes, kettle, sink, toaster, microwave and fridge are available on site.
Since we work together in a communal room, you may wish to bring earbuds/headphones and listen to your own inspirational music!
You may also want to bring slippers/indoor shoes, and whatever else makes you comfie when you read/write.
All FEELed Lab events strive to be feminist, anticolonial, antiracist, queer and accessible spaces.
