This FEELed Note was written by core FEELed Lab member and Beyond the Desk co-facilitator Tom Letcher-Nicholls.

On November 10th, the FEELed Lab hosted the second meeting of the project “Beyond the Desk: Building and Sustaining Community Through Student-Led Collaboration at Woodhaven Eco-Culture Centre.

Beyond the Desk (BtD) is a student-led project, co-led by Manuela Rosso-Brugnach and Tom Letcher-Nicholls, that aims to bring people together at the Woodhaven Eco-Cultural Centre to build and work in community, as well as caring for and connecting with one another and the land.

Potluck on the FEELed Lab kitchen table including lots of fruit and snacks

We were incredibly grateful for a great turnout of both FEELed Lab regulars and new faces. We started with low-stakes introductions before moving into working on whatever we most needed to, including writing, crocheting, and poetry by (and in) the creek. We also shared a special potluck lunch! After lunch we continued with work but also tried to use the opportunity to bring and answer questions about our work and writing together.

For Manuela and Tom, hosting these events has been an iterative process—exploring and experimenting with the most useful, effective, but also generative ways to host these co-working sessions. We really look forward to continuing the process, and hope to see you at the next event!
