This summer has felt like an especially heavy one. Last year’s informal FEELed Lab summer motto was “Vortex Girl Summer”, my motto for this summer has been “Cosmic Take-down Summer” speaking to the increasingly destructive wildfire season, the fact that Bellevue creek has been completely dry for 6 weeks and a series of crises that has been affecting friends and family near and far.
Among all this, we wanted to create a space to come together despite it all in community and to share our crafting-coping treasures with each other. Thank you to everyone who brought zines, screen prints, posters and patches! I left yesterday perhaps not feeling less despair, but feeling less alone in it. Getting to bake and share cake, crafty treasures, conversation and community made me feel warm and connected despite everything. It gave me the sense that we can still build community and act together.
Earlier this week Astrida and I screen-printed our new limited edition specifically-for-the-cause handprinted t-shirts with a (new!) FEELed Lab design, with all proceeds going to the Enowkin Centre’s wildfire support drive.*
And during our gathering (and a lil bit before), we raised $500 for this effort to be sent to En’owkin! Thank you to everyone for chipping in, with your money, your energy, and/or your well wishes!
ICYMI: There are still a small pile of these shirts left! When you donate $40 (or more) to En’owkin Centre, we will give you one of our new limited edition FEELed Lab t-shirts (pictured below). We only printed 20 and when they are gone, they are gone! (S, M, L, XL). Donations can be made directly to En’owkin (please show a receipt) or by etransfer .
